I get it. Christmas gift shopping for toys for 11 year old boys is hard work. They’re at the cusp of the preteen years and it seems like toys are a thing of the past. Is it really all about video games moving forward? It doesn’t have to be!

I sat down with my 11 year old son and brainstormed this list with him. What are some cool toys for 11 year old boys right now? According to him, it’s the new Lego Mario sets, plushies from their favorite video games, posable action figures from video games, and more.

Keep reading for his top 11 picks!

If you need a unique Christmas gift for an 11 year old boy (or maybe some birthday gift ideas), I hope you find his list helpful. Some of the coolest toys are listed here! It’s always a treat to see the excitement on their face when they open a gift they’re excited to get.

    Lego Mario Set

This is the starter set, and there are also expansion packs you can get to keep this set growing. It's very popular, and just look at all the five star reviews on Amazon! The kids love it. My son actually pre-ordered this and paid for it with his own money... that's how bad he wanted it!

    Lego Star Wars Set

Yes, Star Wars is still popular with the kids. Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Chewy... these guys are always cool. The set we've linked to includes Yoda and R2-D2.

    Laser Tag Set

We have friends who bought this laser tag set as a Christmas gift for their kids, and it was so much fun! They would run around outside or in the basement and have a blast together. I think this is a great gift idea if you need to buy a gift for a large family, or for a kid who has friends over often.

    Video Game Action Figures

Most 11 year old boys we know love video games, and they also enjoy action figures or figmas from their favorite video games. Our son has this figure from Legend of Zelda and loves that it's posable.

    Video Game Plushies

Another idea for gifts is a plush (or plushie, as my son says) from their favorite video game. He enjoys Animal Crossing and has a few of the Animal Crossing plushies. The one pictured is of the character Raymond, and it's been well loved.

    Foosball Table

We aren't sure if this really constitutes as a toy per se, but he has recently began to play foosball with his cousins and grandpa. If you don't have room for a large, stand-alone foosball table, this is a tabletop foosball game that's also budget-friendly.

    Lego Mindstorms Kit

We're hesitant to share this as a gift idea because it's pretty expensive, but if money isn't tight, one of the cool toys for 11 year old boys is a Lego Mindstorms kit. They are not only fun, but educational, too! This kit allows them to build a robot.

    VEX Robotics Kit

Our son was introduced to VEX in his Robotics club, and he really enjoys working with these pieces to build robotic things. We've linked to this cool ball launcher since it's inexpensive and a fun start to building with VEX. If your kiddo is ready for something more challenging, check out VEX IQ.

    Moldable Clay

He still loves working with his hands, and while play doh is definitely too childish for him, he does like to work with clay. This clay set enables him to build simple animals that actually come out pretty cool.

    Quality Sketch Pads

While he thinks he's too big to color now, he does love to draw. A great Christmas gift or birthday gift idea that won't break the bank is a high quality sketch pad like this one. He'll have it filled with super cool drawings in no time!

    Remote Control Plane

These are so fun! This little plane can fly up to 320 feet and has three settings to make it easy, moderate, or more advanced to fly.

So what did you think of my son’s list of the best toys for 11 year old boys? Will you be shopping for any of these for Christmas gifts or a birthday gift? Be sure to let us know or share your own ideas in the comments.
