Our family has practiced fasting for several years, which prompted me to begin building The Ultimate Daniel Fast Recipes List. There you will find our favorite 21 day Daniel Fast recipes (for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and I’ll continue to add more as we discover new favorites. Today, though, we’re focusing on easy Daniel Fast dinner recipes… for those times you need to put together a simple dinner, quick.
These Daniel Fast recipes are intended to be simple, rather than rich or heavy, because they’re the opposite of “the king’s food” Daniel abstained from during his captivity. During this time he ate mostly fresh foods, using beans, vegetables, fruits, grains, and nuts, so that’s what you’ll find in these recipes.
Tip: No time to cook? Check out our list of Daniel Fast friendly restaurants.
It is my hope that these easy Daniel Fast recipes will help you stay the course on your hardest days. Some of them may need small modifications to fit your fast exactly, depending on how strict your interpretation of Daniel’s fast is.
Generally speaking, this fast is based on the account in Daniel 10, “In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.”
When my husband was pastoring, we encouraged the Daniel Fast at the start of each new year. Doing the fast with our church members was helpful to all of us; we could share recipes, inspiring Bible verses, and more. A couple times we even got together with other families who were on the Daniel Fast and shared our meals. It was nice to try out a recipe someone else had enjoyed, and maybe add it to our own list of favorites. A new Daniel Fast recipe was always a treasure!

Daniel Fast Bible Verses
We personally do the Daniel Fast privately and, at times, corporately together with our church. There are several instances in the Bible where fasts were done either corporately or privately, as you can see in Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 9:14-15, Esther 4:15-16, Isaiah 58:5-7. Those are just a few… and the book of Acts also outlines great moves of God that came about by a combination of prayer and fasting. You might want to integrate our daily Daniel Fast scripture readings as you embark on this prayer and fasting journey.

Our church now is on the Daniel’s Fast! Today I had red beans, brown rice, tofu, mixed together ! Served in a flat bread! Sooo good!! Oh I put a tomato sauce called the “Vine.” Mixed in! Oh so good!! I made the red beans and rice mixture prior and then the next day took it out of refrigerator and fried in frying pan with tofu, cheese and tomatoe sauce! So good!
It’s so easy! I substituted my flat bread with corn bread on another day so good!! It doesn’t feel like a fast, but sustaining from meats and sweet! I don’t miss my sweets now, but will want after the fast! The same with meats! I love it because my body gets a break from meats! I feel healthier!!
