Beauty hacks… We’re bombarded with them everywhere:
“How to have thicker, luxurious eyelashes right now!”
“You can have plump, kissable lips today!”
“Get sexy buns of steel in just 30 days!”
Society puts so much emphasis on outward beauty, which is largely influenced by the million dollar commercials plastered all over TV, fashion magazines spilling over grocery stands, and young women who are striving to gain their worth from the accolades of young men, neither of whom have been taught any better.
Marketing gurus are paid big money to make us feel inferior and entice us into eagerly giving them countless dollars for the next beauty secret or seemingly quick, easy fix.
But… we should know better.
And we need to teach our children better.
We can be intentional about sharing God’s perspective of beauty and what makes for a truly beautiful woman in the eyes of God.
I don’t know about you, but to me, He’s the one whose opinion matters the most.
Who sets the standard for beauty in your life? Hollywood? Or His Word?

Five bible verses about becoming a truly beautiful woman
Psalm 139:14
This verse says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”
You are created by God, and He doesn’t make junk! Use this verse as an affirmation; recite it to yourself in the mirror each morning as you’re getting ready to start your day. There is POWER in the words that you speak! He made you beautiful, but sometimes it takes awhile for our brain to get the message. It can be hard to re-train our brain to believe His truth. He will help you!
1 Samuel 16:7
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”
Many people focus on what we look like on the outside. God focuses on what we are on the inside. Do you put more time and effort into being beautiful on the outside or the inside? It’s not about the perfect outfit, the perfect make-up, or the perfect body. While there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look well-kept and pretty, we need to make sure to keep it in perspective.
Proverbs 31:30
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.”
Youthful beauty will fade quickly. Wrinkles will come, bodies will sag, and we change. Rather than focusing on praise for outward beauty, God desires we “fear” Him. That doesn’t mean we’re to be afraid of Him, but reverence Him and be in awe of Him and all that He has done. This is what makes us beautiful and worthy of praise in the eyes of God.
1 Peter 3:3-4
“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
This does not mean it’s wrong to braid your hair or wear nice things. The verse is a reminder not to focus on spending hours and hours working on our hair or finding the perfect outfit. God would rather see us spend out time becoming beautiful on the inside, practicing gentleness… this is what has “great worth” to Him!
1 Timothy 4:8
“Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next.”
Yes, physical exercise and living a healthy lifestyle has benefits, but God expects us to be spiritually healthy by reading our Bibles, spending time in prayer, and going to church regularly. Having a perfect physical body won’t get you into heaven, but growing close to God has eternal rewards!
