Oh, the blessing and burden of kids who love to read! Our kids fly through books, sometimes reading a whole chapter book in one night. Yes, you read that right – one night! Like you, this led us to do a little investigating: Where can we find free books for kids, other than the obvious choice of going to our local library?

Not to bash the local library, of course. They are treasure troves of a million wonderful things, and finding good books is simply one of the many benefits of taking a trip to the library.

But, outside of the library, where do we go?

Where to get free books for kids! There are so many place to find amazing books online that kids will love to read!

Where to Get Free Books For Kids

(This is not an exhaustive list, but it should get you started on some wonderful adventures!)

Free Books For Kids On Amazon

    Amazon Prime

If you’re an Amazon Prime member (this link leads to a free 30-day trial), you can borrow one eBook per month for free via Amazon. There are eBooks for young children, like Dora’s Sleepover and Goodnight, Little Monster, as well as eBooks for tweens and teens as well.

    Amazon Kindle FreeTime

While not technically free, if your child has a Kindle Fire they can subscribe to Amazon’s Kindle FreeTime Unlimited (this link leads to a free 30-day trial), which provides access to more than 1,000 eBooks geared to kids ages 3-8. It’s almost free at just $4.99 per month (or $2.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime member) and includes access to free kids’ videos, games, and apps.

Amazon’s FREE Kindle App For ANY Device

You don’t have to own a kindle; you can install the free kindle reading app on most devices, even your iphone or computer. We have the kindle app installed on our family’s iPad and use it often. I also have it on my iphone. There are tons of free eBooks that can be found on kindle!

    Amazon.com

On it’s main web site, Amazon often has free eBooks for kids available for a limited time, and you can find many of them by simply searching in Amazon, like I did here.

As I write this, some current free books for kids on Amazon are:

    Bruce, The Kickin’ Chicken

    Fairy and the Lost Wings

Diary of a Private School Kid

    Crabby the Crab

The Best of Laugh Yourself Silly Jokes For Kids

Funny Jokes For Kids: 100 Hilarious Jokes

    The Villager Detective Diaries (Minecraft)

These change regularly, so you’ll never know what gem you’ll find!

Free Books For Kids – The Classics

Project Gutenburg offers over 57,000 free books online; some are for adults, some are for kids. These are older titles that include many classics.

Free Books For Kids – Illustrated Books

The University of Penn shares some illustrated children’s books on their web site. It’s a bit clunky to navigate, but you can browse alphabetically or even go into other pages to find other types of books. It’s a huge database!

Free Books For Kids – Audio Books

Loyal Books (which use to be Books Should Be Free) offers a nice selection of free audio books for kids. Their site navigates well, and you can easily see pictures of book covers, which helps with browsing the titles. They have some amazing books to choose from, including Huck Finn, Anne of Green Gables, and more.

Free Books For Kids – International Books

The International Children’s Digital Library is a really neat concept, and they offer ebooks in multiple languages. Their search page isn’t hard to navigate, and you can search for books by age range, book length, award winning, and more.

The amount of free books for kids that can be found online is truly endless!

    Enjoy!

    Go in grace today,
