Sometimes it feels like you’re in the middle of a whirlwind or storm. These 5 prayers for faith and hope will help calm your heart in the middle of the chaos.
I can’t think of anyone who enjoys going through the storms of life, but it’s worth pointing out that God often chooses to speak to His people in the midst of a storm. When we were pastoring, we witnessed this many times in people’s lives. When the storm is raging, He speaks with a still, calm voice.
If you’re in the middle of a personal storm or crisis, be encouraged! Ask God what He has for you during this time. How can you use this season to grow? What can He teach you? How will you get through this time changed for the better?
Recently, I heard someone say, “We have the vaccine for fear; it’s faith and hope and love.” Even if you’re fearful and hanging on by a thread, just a few words from God can change everything, bringing you renewed faith and radical hope!
Let’s look at five scriptures we can use as powerful prayers for faith and hope during the chaos of life. I pray they bring peace into your situation, calm your heart, and serve as a reminder that God is with you, always.
5 Prayers For Faith and Hope That’ll Help Calm Your Heart
In Job 38:1, it says “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind…”
Dear Lord, speak truth to me in the middle of my own personal whirlwind. Help me to see what you want me to see. Keep my mind clear and my relationship with you strong. Hold me up and help me to not falter in my faith. If my thinking process isn’t in line with how you want me to think, help me to pivot and begin thinking in the right direction. Help me to understand that you are in control and that I can trust you completely. Speak peace into my life today. Help me to rest in you. My hope is in you! In Jesus name, amen.
Matthew 8:26 tells us, “Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
Dear Lord, just as you were with your disciples in the midst of the stormy seas, I know you’re with me in my storm right now. Help me to remember that when the time is right, you’ll rise up and calm the storm. I know you are able and I trust you. Calm my heart and teach me to stay close to you during this time. Strengthen my faith and walk with you. I’m thankful you are “in the boat” with me just as you were with your disciples. Because of you, I have hope. Thank you for walking with me so I’m not walking through this alone. In Jesus name, amen.
In 1 Kings 19, God commanded Elijah’s attention through a strong wind, earthquake, and fire, but then spoke to him in a still, small voice.
Dear Lord, if I can’t hear you in the midst of my storm, do whatever it takes to get my attention so I can hear your still, small voice. If I need to re-focus on you and lean in closer to you to hear you better, help me to get to that place. Above all else, I want to be near you and hear from you. You have my attention. Reveal your presence, Lord. Help me remember you’re walking with me. Guide my steps. Let me be sensitive to you and hear what you have to say. I have faith you will never leave me or forsake me (Hebrews 13:5). In Jesus name, amen.
Psalm 46:1-2 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”
Dear Lord, you alone are my refuge and strength. You are my help in times of trouble. I will not fear, but instead I will place my faith and hope in you and your promises. You are for me! I am your child and you love me. You have plans and a purpose for my life. You won’t leave me stranded, but you will speak peace in the midst of the chaos. You are faithful! Teach me to trust you completely. Lead me into your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding. In Jesus name, amen.
Numbers 6:24-26 brings hope to us, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face to you and give you peace.”
Lord, I pray this passage from the book of Numbers over my life today. May you bless me and keep me, may your face shine on me. Be gracious to me. Turn to me and give me peace. You are my salvation and the hope of my life. Protect me from doubt and unbelief. Remove any trace of fear from my mind. Renew my spirit. Transform my situation. Help me to see you working in the midst of my circumstances. Help me remember the words of the song, that “even when I can’t see it, you’re working.” You are so gracious and merciful to me, Lord. I’m thankful that I have you in my life! In Jesus name, amen.
Whatever storm you find yourself in, remember he’s your Protector and Defender and he goes before you. You’re not alone. He is with you!
Before you finish your prayer time, pause and be encouraged with this song titled “The Blessing” by Elevation Worship. It’s a powerful message based on the blessing given in Numbers 6. Let’s worship away any worry that may try to creep into your heart. May grace and peace be with you!
