Here are 20 things to take to Disney World that will save you money and make you the hero of the trip. We’re talking ninja planning skills, mom!
If you’ve been wondering what things to take to Disney World on your vacation, here’s a complete list of the essentials for every family.
We try to go the Orlando area every year (I think we’ve missed just two years of the past twenty) and now I feel like I’ve finally figured out what things to take to Disney World with us when we go on our annual trip.
It’s taken me awhile!
I’m passing along my Disney tips in a three part series:
- Part 1: Planning a Disney World Trip on a Budget (That Your Family Will Love)
- Part 2: 20 Things to Take to Disney World That’ll Save You Money <– this post
- Part 3: Coming Soon!
Now, without further ado…
20 Things To Take To Disney World
Waterproof Phone Pouch
Designed for surfers and swimmers, this waterproof phone pouch will protect your cell phone, cash, and other valuables while at the parks. It will even allow you to take photos underwater!
Portable Charger
This portable charger is a favorite among reviewers, PLUS it’s small enough to fit in your pocket. Perfect for charging your cell phone while on-the-go.
Waterproof Backpack
The BEST backpack for Disney! This lightweight waterproof backpack is a lifesaver for the days you’ll be on water rides. No need to worry about your things getting wet. It also comes in a variety of colors and patterns! My favorite is the purple leaf design.
Mini First Aid Kit
This inexpensive mini first aid kit is TSA compliant and has a sturdy clasp that will easily attach to your backpack. It includes bandages, eye wash, a moleskin blister pad, and more.
Blister Balm
Speaking of blisters, you’ll want to keep this blister balm handy, all the time — not just on vacation! You’ll be so glad you did!
Blister Bandages
If your kids are especially prone to blisters, you might want to take it a step further and keep these Better Blister Bandages on hand. They’ll be doing a lot of walking, and these will help their feet by both preventing blisters and soothing their heels.
Chapstick
Our family loves Burt’s Bees chapstick. It’s our favorite! Be sure to get chapstick that has an SPF since you’ll be out in the sun all day.
Sunscreen
Since sunburns are bad for your skin (not to mention painful!) you don’t want to show up at the parks without proper sunscreen. This one is waterproof and has a SPF of 100.
Family Rain Ponchos
Every time we go to Florida, I wish I’d remembered to bring these ponchos! I always seem to forget them. Without fail, it rains, and the ponchos in the park are incredibly expensive. This poncho multipack is cheap insurance against the occasional passing rain shower!
Germ Removal Wet Wipes
These wipes are nice to have available for germy hands when you can’t seem to find a bathroom nearby right away.
Glow Sticks
Park vendors will try to sell you glow sticks as it’s getting dark in the evening. It’s much cheaper to bring your own. The kids will be thrilled and won’t feel like they’re missing out, and you’ll be the hero.
A Simple Dress
I like bringing a simple, breezy dress with me to Florida. A dress like this one is easily dressed up or down. You can wear it with flip flops, tennis shoes, or strappy summer sandals. It works well both in the parks AND also at an evening dinner out. You can just throw it on and go!
Cooling Towel
Whether you’re in the Disney parks or relaxing at the hotel pool, a cooling pad/towel is fun to have around. Not a necessity, but a luxury, for sure!
Mini Handheld Fan
If you or one of your family members get hot and sweaty easily, consider bringing a mini handheld fan with you. This fan is rechargeable and will help you beat the heat when you’re standing in long lines for rides.
Neck Wallet
Whether it’s Disney or any other trip, a quality neck wallet is a great investment. It helps protect you from pickpockets and scammers, and is RFID blocking as well, which shields your credit/debit cards.
Reusable Water Bottle
Drinks get expensive in the parks, so you’ll want to keep a reusable water bottle with you. You can refill it at any of the water fountains. Sometimes the water tastes funny to me (I’m used to my own water at home) so I like filtered water. This reusable water bottle by Brita is filtered.
Autograph Book
This is a c-h-e-a-p souvenir your kids will love! It’s a Mickey Mouse autograph book, so they can collect signatures from all the Disney characters they see in the parks. They sell similar books in the parks, but it’s so much cheaper to bring your own!
ID Safety Wristband
If you have young children, you’ll obviously want to keep a close eye on them at the theme parks, which are usually very crowded places. These ID safety wristbands are so cute — your littles will love wearing them. You’ll be glad you used them if one of your kids happens to wander off!
Mini Notebook with Pen
Having a small notebook around for the kids makes for fun family memories. Have everyone fill-in a page each night; they can write down a favorite thing that happened that day, or draw a picture that commemorates the day. You’ll cherish it for years to come.
Sunglasses
Last but not least, don’t forget your sunglasses! Be sure to have sunglasses for everyone in your family. The kids feel very grown-up wearing them, and it will help protect delicate eyes from the bright Florida sunshine.
