Note: Today we have a special guest with us. Pastor Daniel Koren is an author of several books, including Devotions With Dad. We met him a few years ago while at a conference and have been blessed by his wisdom. It’s an honor to introduce him to you! Enjoy!
My heart throbbed with a new feeling I’d never had before. I was holding my newborn son in my arms. I wanted to laugh, cry, and anything in between. I had never experienced such a feeling of joy, relief, fear, confidence, and responsibility. I knew I would do anything for my child.
But I didn’t know how.
Like many dads, I knew I needed to be a good leader and raise my son to serve Him, but I was not sure where to start. There had to be more to this than just bringing him to church. I sought out successful dads, went to family conferences, and started asking questions. I met a man who believed in storytelling as a method of discipleship.
I began to do storytelling once my children were old enough to understand. They loved it. I could teach them Bible principles with fun stories they could relate to. Today, my oldest is almost 20 and my youngest a year and a half old. My wife and I have 5 other children in between. They all love God and are involved in the work of the Kingdom.
I can’t say our godly children are a direct result of discipleship storytelling, but I know it has helped.
As the years went by, I met several fathers who struggled to find their place in leading their families like I had. Some mothers are so efficient the men doubt they can keep up. The Lord birthed in me a vision to equip dads with a resource they could use to teach their children.
The book Devotions with Dad: Building Character is one of the results of that initiative. In it, you will find 52 weeks of stories for a dad to read to his children. Each story has follow up questions to stimulate their thinking and help them apply the meaning. There is much more in it, too: a weekly devotional thought for Dad only, a Bible story on the same topic, and more discussion questions!
Imagine the kids begging dad to sit down and disciple them. It is as easy as reading Dr. Seuss but does work that will last for eternity.
I purchased Devotions with Dad and have been using it as a weekly bible study with my children for the past few weeks. It is excellent. My kids were on the edge of their seats! Thank you.” Pastor Joe G.
Yours for more fathers of influence,
