We’d like to avoid pain at all costs, but sometimes life throws a curve ball that smacks us right in the face and knocks us off our feet. It sucks the air out of us, and it’s all we can do to simply whisper, “God please help me through this!”
Praying can be so hard during those seasons. Finding the words to pray seems nearly impossible.
Here’s a simple prayer you can use as a springboard to get back on your feet and on the right track!

God Please Help Me Through This
Dear Lord,
Thank you for this day. Thank you for loving me, for extending mercy to me, for faithfully working in my heart even during my darkest times.
Today I’m asking you: God please help me through this.
Help me be focused, keeping my eyes fixed on you instead of the circumstances around me. Help me see myself as you do – I’m a beloved daughter of the King of Kings. Speak peace into my mind. Calm my spirit. Heal my heart. Give me an understanding of your purpose for me today. Gently lead me out of this pit. I’m hurting and I need your help.
Place the right person in my path today; someone who will speak life and encouragement into me. Also help me to open my eyes to someone I can bless today. Let your strength shine through me during this dark time in my life. Help me to be your hands and feet even when I feel bruised and weak. I know you will be my strength.
I pray Philippians 4:7 over this day, knowing that your peace will transcend any of my understanding and you will guard my heart. Help me to renew my mind. Guard my thoughts, Lord; I offer them to You. Transform me.
I also pray Philippians 4:8. Help me stay focused on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, and praiseworthy. Help me think on these things, and take captive any thoughts that are contrary to your purposes for me.
Help me take Philippians 4:19 to heart and be confident that you will supply my needs – all of my needs – physical, spiritual, and emotional.
Help me to remember that, despite how I feel, I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).
Thank you for your grace at work in my life, and help me to rejoice in you today. You are holy, righteous, merciful, and powerful in my life. Thank you for your peace. Thank you for the mercy you make new every morning. Thank you for empowering me for this day.
In Jesus name, amen.
Do you feel the Lord tugging at your heart to pray longer? Then keep going! Add a few more lines. Pour your heart out to him!
Then Meditate On These Verses
Psalm 3:3-4 — But you, Lord, are a shield around me.
Psalm 34:4 – I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.
Psalm 61:2 — Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
Psalm 86:15 – But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Psalm 91:4 — He shall cover me with his feathers, and under his wings shall I trust; his truth shall be my shield and buckler.
Psalm 121 — I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from where comes my help.
Isaiah 43:1 — But now saith the Lord that created me, and he that formed me, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name. You are mine.
This Helps, Too
Since it’s hard to find the words to pray during these tough seasons, I’ve found it helpful to write out bible verses and also jot down my thoughts on paper. A great place to start is the 31-day Time With God Toolkit.
Instead of feeling lost and like you don’t know where to begin, you’ll feel like you have a game plan and an outline for time with God each day. You can write out these bible verses and your prayers as you have a few minutes here and there, then come back to it later.
There’s also a habit tracker so you can mark your progress each day. Sometimes it feels good knowing you’ve accomplished something when everything else is crashing around you!
Click here to learn more about the Time With God Toolkit.
What has helped you during those times you’ve cried out “God please help me through this” — I’d love to hear your testimony!
Go in grace today.
Was this helpful to you? Then tell a friend! It might help them, too.

So glad my friend suggested this site! My aunt recently lost her husband so quickly after being diagnosed with cancer. It really threw all of us for a loop especially my aunt and their children. She is a Christian, a strong believer in God and with her pain being so deep, I’m sure”How to pray when I’m hurting” will definitely help their ?s recover. Thank you!

Hello Jaime, I would love to speak to you about your passion for prayer. I too have been given the assignment and gift to teach individuals how to bombard heaven through prayer. I’ve written several books on prayer. I also have a ministry where I pray for Pastors. This is my passion to help members pray for their ministers. I’ve served as Pastor of one church for 30 years this July. I’ve been blessed to be in the preaching ministry for 38 years. I’ve read many of the things you have written and shared. I hope you hear my heart and the Holy Spirit will lead you to connect with me.

Hello! I am a native Long Islander who has lived on LI, in New York City, and upstate NY. I moved to central Ohio in 1999 after my husband passed of a heart attack (my daughters were 9 and 6 at the time) and I lost my job a year later because of an office closing.
I am now retired; one daughter is in Columbus, OH with husband and baby girl and the other daughter lives in St. Louis, MO. I retired and downsized into a nice little condo outside Columbus. Life is okay, but I have such a strong yearning to move back to Long Island, Being on a fixed income, I cannot afford it. I’m comfortable where I am, but “happy” is no longer in my vocabulary. I have enough of an income to survive, but certainly not enough to move back home. I pray all the time asking for inspiration to figure out how to get back home, but as of yet, no ideas have come to me. Although I’m retired, I’m working as an editor and as a music teacher. It’s still not enough.
I think what I need now are prayers. I have to figure out where an older single woman can find enough money to move back to her home. If I’m on the wrong path, I hope I can find the right path before too much more time goes by.
Thank you for listening to my gripe!!!
🙂

Hi I gave up my job at a firm of solicitors Thompson’s to train to teach. The teaching didn’t work and I want my job back so much it aches. I was good at the job and helped so many people but I have tried again 3 times and been turned down. I can’t live without my job. Amen
