Prayers For Mother’s Day
A Mother’s Day Prayer For All Mothers
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of mothers. May these bearers of life also be bearers of your Word. May they teach and train up their children in the way they should go, so when they are old they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). Even when the children are already grown, help mothers to sow the seeds that will bear the Fruit of Your Spirit. Just as a mother’s work is never done, and her prayers for her children will never end. A piece of her heart is always with them.
Lord, we’ve learned that this huge responsibility is one that has no job description. There’s no special college degree, no on-the-job training program. Help each mother to realize that You offer something even better than those things: Your Spirit and Your Word.
May the Holy Spirit guide each mother as she seeks for wisdom. Illuminate the Scriptures for her. Help her encourage her children to honor You. Give her a church family that will come alongside her and show the love of Christ to her and her family. Place godly mentors in her life and also in the lives of her children. May they seek You and find You.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
A Prayer For Those Grieving the Loss of their Mom on Mother’s Day
Dear Lord, for the woman who has lost her mother, we pray for Your peace and comfort. You alone are the one who mends broken hearts and heals the hurting. Come alongside her and remind her Your mercies are new every morning. If the day feels too hard, help her know You are there to help her get through.
For the aching empty place in her heart, we ask that you fill it with Your presence. Help her feel Your presence surrounding her and know that she never walks alone; You are always with her. We pray for the peace of Your presence. In the powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
A Mother’s Day Prayer For the Woman Battling Infertility
Gracious God, today I pray for the woman who is battling infertility. You see her hurting heart and the grief she carries, especially on mothers day. Help her to give her heaviness and brokenness over to You. Remind her that in her weakness, You show Your mighty strength.
Give her peace and patience today, Lord. We know You have a plan for her life, and nothing is too big or too hard for You. If it’s Your plan to bless her with a child, we thank You. Show her and her husband what the next steps are for them, whether it be to simply remain patient or to pursue medical assistance. If Your plan is to open their heart to adoption or fostering or perhaps mothering in other ways, we thank You for that, too. Make Your plan known without a shadow of a doubt, Lord. Your timing is perfect and we trust you.
You give grace enough to get through each day, and we praise You for it. In Jesus name, amen.
A Prayer For the Mother With a Special Needs Child
Father, today we offer a prayer for the mother with a special needs child. You see this mother right where she is, and You know exactly the load she carries on a daily basis.
When other mothers are driving their child to youth sports or school clubs, this mother is driving her child to therapy or yet another doctor’s appointment. This mother celebrates different milestones than other mothers. She has mourned the loss of what she pictured motherhood would be like and has been learning to search out the God moments in this road less-travelled.
Lord, we pray that today she sees the beauty in the midst of this brokenness. May she look at how far You’ve brought her and how perfectly You’ve held her and her child. Remind her that her child is also Your child, too. You know just what we need and when we need it. You are able to provide for our every need, whether it be physical, emotional, or financial.
When her cup is empty, please fill it up again. Just like the boy with the fish and the loaves, You take the little energy she may have left and You multiply it into a great miracle. Her life and her child’s life are miracles in the making. When she is overwhelmed and weary and thinks she can’t make it another day, carry her to a deeper place in You. We thank You for Your great mercies. In Jesus name, amen.
A Prayer For All Women on Mother’s Day
(This prayer was written by Hannah Kardon)
To the Moms who are struggling, to those filled with incandescent joy.
To the Moms who are remembering children who have died, and pregnancies that miscarried.
To the Moms who decided other parents were the best choice for their babies, to the Moms who adopted those kids and loved them fierce.
To those experiencing frustration or desperation in infertility.
To those who knew they never wanted kids, and the ways they have contributed to our shared world.
To those who mothered colleagues, mentees, neighborhood kids, and anyone who needed it.
To those remembering Moms no longer with us.
To those moving forward from Moms who did not show love, or hurt those they should have cared for.
Today is a day to honor the unyielding love and care for others we call ‘Motherhood,’ wherever we have found it and in whatever ways we have found to cultivate it within ourselves.
Prayer For My Mother’s Strength
Father, I know that we sometimes go through seasons when we feel weak and tired. But — I also know that your word is true, and your word says that when we trust in you, we find new strength. It’s when we are weak that we can learn to appreciate your strength! You always carry us through to the other side of weariness and exhaustion. When my mother needs strength, help her to lean on you. Help her to accomplish her daily tasks and not grow weary. Give her energy for the day ahead.
In Jesus name, amen.
A Personal Prayer For the Mother Who is Going Through a Storm
Dear Lord, just as you were with your disciples in the midst of the stormy seas, I know you’re with me in my storm right now. Help me to remember that when the time is right, you’ll rise up and calm the storm. I know you are able and I trust you. Calm my heart and teach me to stay close to you during this time. Strengthen my faith and walk with you. I’m thankful you are “in the boat” with me just as you were with your disciples. Because of you, I have hope. Thank you for walking with me so I’m not walking through this alone. In Jesus name, amen.
