Before our children came along, I envisioned motherhood as being all about baby snuggles, wet sloppy kisses, tickle fights, and bear hugs.
I had no idea about the feelings of insufficiency or helplessness many moms experience. It’s a 24/7 job, and while it’s certainly a blessing to be a mom, there are days I feel like the worst. mother. ever.
Have you ever felt this way?
Sometimes being a mom means feeling alone, feeling scared, and feeling helpless in the middle of your struggles. Maybe you feel like you don’t measure up to the professional, working mom next door… or the beautiful, put-together mom that sits in front of you at Sunday worship… or the fit mom who effortlessly jogs runs by your house pushing a baby stroller every morning. You’re not alone!

All moms have days where they feel helpless. We may not all have the same struggles, but we can all relate in one way or another! We’ve been there!
When life pulls you down, it’s important to lean on God’s truths. He offers help, hope, and perspective through His Word. Be sure you’re carving out time to spend with Him, especially on the days you feel helpless. Time spent with Him will refresh and encourage you!

Here are 10 encouraging Bible verses for the mom who feels helpless:
1. Proverbs 3:5-6
This is one of my favorite verses of the Bible because it shows us that God is in control. It says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and He shall direct your paths.”
2. Matthew 7:7
Sometimes our helplessness is because we haven’t asked for help. Call on God when you feel helpless for His Word says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
3. Psalm 10:9
Don’t forget the devil loves to see you helpless and lost: “Like a lion in cover, he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.”
4. Matthew 9:36
“When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” God has compassion in your helplessness!
5. Isaiah 40:29
You can read of those who were helpless in the Bible all day long, but what God wants you to know is that you have strength through him. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”
6. Numbers 23:22
“God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox.” If God brought his people out of slavery and out of Egypt, believe that He can bring you out of the bondage and helplessness you feel.
7. Psalm 22:19
It is the Psalms that teach us how to pray unto the Lord. Use them when you feel helpless to call out praises to the Lord: “But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.”
8. Psalm 18:32
Psalms also teach you how to praise God even when you don’t feel like it. Remember to praise him in your prayers as David did in the Psalms: “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.”
9. Romans 5:8
God loved us more than anyone could ever love us. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Never forget how much He loves you even in your depths of despair!
10. Psalm 30:2
Throughout the Bible, people cried out to the Lord. He did not forsake them. He answered their prayers and He can answer yours as well: “Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.”
Always remember that God is in control and whatever you are going through, God is NOT helpless. What other verses do you go to when you feel helpless? Share them in the comments!

Thanks for sharing this. My verse would be 2 Corinthians 12:9: “For my grace is sufficient for you, my strength is made perfect in weakness.” This is what God is to us and also what we are to our child. We have to be that tower of strength to them that God is to us.

Hi Jaime,
This is my first time stopping by your blog and I am so thrilled I did! There is so much hope found here for Moms and goodness we need it! I found you at Holley’s? These verses are beautiful examples of where to go when we just feel like we are doing this Mom thing all wrong. I would also like to invite you to join me on Mondays for Moments of Hope. I began a new link up several weeks ago that is all about HOPE. My prayer has been that God would saturate the page with messages of hope that point to Him! I love what you have here and it is exactly the type of hope I prayed for!
Thank you for blessing me today!

Love this!!! One of the best tools we have in navigating motherhood is prayer, and God never fails to answer us when we call out to him! Seeking him in prayer is intentional, passionate and humbling all at the same time, and I am so grateful for God’s heart for mothers. I’d love for you to share your intentional mother heart on Fresh Market Friday, where intention meets passion:) Crystal

Great list! I’m an empty nester now, but we never ever stop being moms. Here’s a verse for moms of “big” kids out on their own. Psalm 37:25 says, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” God will be there to watch out for our kids even when we can’t be.
