When I was a child, much of our quiet time in the evenings was spent playing family games or reading books. I remember spending countless hours sitting on my bedroom floor, my back flat against the sideboards of my old and very high wooden bed, with my knees drawn up and a book propped on them. Nothing was too long or too difficult for me back then; I loved to read, and was good at it.
As a mama, I still appreciate a well-written book, but now I find myself searching out ones that will help me grow and will ultimately add value to my family or spiritual life.
In addition to my daily Bible reading and the daily devotional book God Calling, I'm hoping to read these books this month:
:: The Prodigal God by Timothy Keller
:: EntreLeadership by Dave Ramsey
:: Share Jesus Without Fear by William Fay
Don't forget -- The Money Saving Mom's Budget by Crystal Paine will be available on the 10th of this month, too! You can read my review of the pre-release here.
What are you reading? Did you set any reading goals for this new year? I'd love to hear about them!

Please note that my reading of these books does not mean that I endorse everything in them, nor the authors themselves. Everything must be read in light of the Word!

I have actually. I never have before, other than reading my Bible through each year. But, yes, this year I am going to try to read one book per month of the sort that you mentioned here. The one I have started is “Covered By Love”, by Lori Wagner and Gwyn Oakes. It is brand new, my district Ladies President picked it up at Gen Conference in October of 2011. I am going to make work sheets and lessons from it once I am finished reading it. I lead up the TCG at our church and that is what I am teaching in 2012.
I need to check out the ones that you have mentioned and there are many in my minister husband’s library that I could and probably should read.
Have a wonderful day!
Covered by Love is excellent (I ordered mine just before GC), as is her book The Girl in the Skirt. I actually had them at my desk last night and was skimming through them again! Lori Wagner shared here on LABB last month; I’m not sure if you saw it: http://likeabubblingbrook.com/2011/12/how-to-have-a-joy-filled-christmas/. I love her! She’s so precious!
My study theme for 2012 is all involving parenting and being a great mom. That’s not ALL I study but each month I have something of that theme and then each month has it’s own theme.
There are 2 books that I am currently reading and once I’m done with them, I will reread them again. They are my main books for the year and they are prayer books. (Of course I will still use them after the year is over). They are “The Power of a Praying Parent” by Stormie Omartian. And the other is an ebook called “Warrior Prayers, Praying the Word for the boys in your life” by Brooke McGlothlin (which is currently only 99 cents!)
This month I am reading “Bringing Up Boys” by Dr. James Dobson and also “Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy and Whole” by Victoria Osteen
Loved EntreLeadership, enjoy your reading. I have a goal to read and implement something from 24 books this year, today I posted about finishing 100 this last year! Just stopping by from Money Saving Mom http://skipperclan.com/2012/01/03/the-year-i-read-100-books/
Right now, I’m focusing on “Large Family Logistics” for my homemaking, and “Lies Women Believe” (Nancy Lee Demoss) and “Intimate Issues” for marriage and womanhood. I also have “The Naturally Healthy Cuisine” (Shonda Parker) open in my kitchen on most days.
Maybe I’m a tad overstimulated right now, but also very, very inspired by what I’m reading!
