Want to earn some rainy day money? Christmas money? Birthday money?
Using the Swagbucks site is one way I earn extra money, just by searching the web. When you search on Google (or another search engine), they are making money from your search. You may have noticed that the first few links that appear in the Google results are sponsored links. They are getting paid by the advertisers to show you these advertisements, or as they call them, sponsored links.
Swagbucks, though, pays you back a part of their profit -- they don't keep it all for themselves. By simply switching search engines, you can earn money each month. You can also earn "bucks" by referring friends and taking part in special offers. I can get a $5 Amazon gift card for only 450 Swagbucks via their site, which is what I usually redeem my bucks for. I just keep collecting Amazon gift cards as my bucks accrue, then redeem them for birthday or Christmas presents.
And, just so you know, Swagbucks is powered by Google and Ask.com, so you are still getting great search results.
Why not do it? It's free, it's easy, and it's a great way to start earning a few extra dollars to set aside for a rainy day. I have a friend who earned enough money using Swagbucks that she was able to buy almost all of her Christmas gifts with them.
You can get started with Swagbucks easily by signing up here.
This is one of the little things I do to earn money while being a stay-at-home mom. I also take on bits of side work, earn money with this blog, and re-sell items on ebay.
Do you stay home? How do you save money or earn extra money? It's your turn to share!

I’ve been hearing of swagbucks but it seems “too good to be true”. how long have you been doing it? I do birthday party entertaining and maternity/children’s portraits to earn extra cash…
Jen, I’ve been doing it for about two years. The more active you are with it, the more you earn. Referrals really help boost your bucks, even moreso than searching
It’s worth trying, for sure!
What a great idea, Mandi!
I’ve heard about this too, but I’ve never participated. Thanks for the reminder!
One way I earn a little extra is selling soaked granola at our monthly farmer’s market. It’s lots of fun and just enough for me not feel stressed out about doing it.
Out of the home, around my husband’s schedule, I tutor for Club Z, teach for Drama Kids, and, very occassionally, am asked to speak on different topics. From home, I PCA for Explo.org, help folks with resumes and take on side jobs like typing. I do swagbucks and mypoints sometimes, too. I would LOVE to start earning some money from freelance writing and blogging, but I have yet to be able to dedicate time to learning how.
I do blog, but don’t quite know how to step my blog up from being a hobby one to one that earns me some much-needed income. If you’d be willing to offer any free tips or resources, I would be quite grateful! Thanks.
Oh my, I didn’t know about this and am going to go sign up as soon as I’m done with this comment!
Yes, I’ve started making money from home. I get a (so far) very modest check from my MLM every couple months, and have actually started selling the e-books on my website.
Have you heard about upromise.com where you can earn money for your kids’ (or other kids, if you have none of your own) by purchasing from certain places? I just learned about that on a money podcast. Thought it was interesting.
What great info – always lookin’ for new ways to save! I’m puttin’ a lot of legwork into getting our blog profitable, so that one day (hopefully and Lord willing!) my current part-time employment can be replaced by it. Hmm
All kinds of great advice to stick in my memory bank!
I stay home, and I also try to view everything I do as “saving money.” Especially things that I do to directly serve my husband: feeding him, washing his clothes, making his doctor’s appointments. . .doing these tasks frees him up for ministry. In this way, I’m contributing to our household economy as well as furthering the kingdom.
Great article! Thanks for the tips!
Hi there
I search with swagbucks as well, Jaime I was wondering about the ‘referral to your friend’s’ I haven’t done so set because I was intimidated by the agreement before it wanted to ask my facebook friends. Does it bombard them with repeated referrals? Does it regularily post things on your wall? I will consider doing so as long as it is a one-time invite to swagbucks and if it doesn’t continually post things to my wall.
By the way, as of right now, Swagbucks has a sale on there travelocity gift cards, we are planning a vacation soon, so this will save us a bit of money!!
Once you get settled I’d love to hear more about your move and new community! Thanks for your site…I have been learning lots!!
Simone
Hello Jamie,
Oh my this is wonderful! I had heard of swagbucks but never really thought much about it till you explained it here. It certainly sounds like something I might want to consider. One of the ways I make extra is my little shops on Etsy. It has helped my family in lots of little ways. Again thank you so much Jamie! Continue to enjoy a beautiful week.
Smiles?
